Garden – Stanislav Čepička

Radotín, Prague

A very distinctive rock garden is seen in Praha-Radotín. It is a treasure constructed during many years by Stanislav Čepička. An Intensive sun shine is baking a south facing sharp slope for all day in these 200 meters above sea level garden. The owner is a top specialist in dwarf bulbs and one of the best growers of saxatile alpines. Two thirds of the well-built crevice garden is made from local limestone in medium sizes and one third is local soft travertine called in England tufa stone.

The section with rare bulbs is a shallow scree above the natural layer of alkaline schist. That schist is rich in right minerals suitable for Juno Irises, dwarf Colchicums like Colchicum hungaricum and Sternbergias like candid white Sternbergia candida or yellow Sternbergia sicula. All stony ridges are connected with blooming species of Acantholimons, Microphloxes and Pulsatillas. Mr. Čepicka has a perfect collection of genus Edraianthus including divine Edraianthus pilosulus.
