Garden – Vlastimil Braun
Žďár nad Sázavou
The town Žďár nad Sázavou is in small mountains called Czech-Moravian Highland. They have a lot of snow here in winter time and some shrubs such as Daphnes need protection from heavy wet snow. The owner is Vlastimil Braun, good son of an experienced rock gardener from Brno. He has some smaller rock outcrops around new house. One side of the house with an overhand of the roof is a warm sheltered place for some American alpines such as Lewisia tweedyi and Lewisia rediviva. A very pleasant offer is plenty of stony troughs filled with miniature alpines; stones with drilled holes are nicely planted. At the back of the property stands a large covered tufa wall with special watering. One plant here planted in a tufa hole is small mountain columbine Clematis tenuiloba from Big Horn Mts. A sand bed was built in between limestone slabs. Here are rare Penstemons and Daphne arbuscula varieties. The owner constructed a small pond with wet areas around it for moist loving Primulas. Plenty of unnamed dwarf rock garden plants are planted in many rock garden crevices.
